Affordable Care Act provides better insurance coverage and changes for breastfeeding parents
It’s National Breastfeeding Month and there is a new law called the “Affordable Care Act” that went into effect August 1st. Lots of positive changes for breastfeeding parents.
The Affordable Care Act “will make breastfeeding easier and less expensive for mothers who spend part of their days away from their babies. Starting Wednesday(8/1), insurers will be required to reimburse for comprehensive lactation support and counseling for new mothers without co-payments, and to underwrite the rental of breast pumps and other lactation equipment that would allow mothers to express their milk.
The healthcare reform law also requires employers to provide nursing women adequate break time and a private place other than a bathroom for expressing milk in the year following the birth.”
